In warehouse management, universal angle steel shelving is favored due to its flexible structure, convenient assembly and disassembly, and moderate cost. However, to fully leverage its advantages, certain techniques must be mastered in selection, layout, installation, and daily use to achieve the best balance between space utilization, operational safety, and maintenance efficiency.
First, in the selection and configuration stage, parameters should be accurately matched based on the characteristics of the stored goods. The key is to first calculate the maximum length, width, and height of the goods, as well as the weight of each item, to determine the column height, number of layers, and shelf spacing, avoiding insufficient shelf height or wasted space. For mixed goods with significant weight differences, a segmented layout can be adopted, placing heavier items at lower levels and lighter items at higher levels, ensuring both safety and ease of access. Simultaneously, the surface treatment method and shelf material should be selected based on environmental humidity and corrosion risk. For example, galvanized layers and grating are suitable for humid environments to improve durability.
Second, in layout design, attention should be paid to the rational planning of traffic flow and aisles. The key is to determine the minimum aisle width based on the storage and retrieval method (manual or light machinery) to avoid either overly narrow shelving that leads to difficult handling or overly wide shelving that wastes space. For frequently accessed items, place them in easily accessible locations near aisles or entrances to reduce operational paths and time costs. In multi-layer layouts, maintain alignment of the upper and lower layers' centers of gravity to prevent structural instability caused by uneven loading.
Installation techniques primarily focus on precision and stability control. Bolt connections must be tightened progressively in a diagonal sequence, using a torque wrench to ensure the specified torque is reached to avoid localized loosening. After initial installation, check the verticality of the uprights and the levelness of the shelves, correcting deviations with shims if necessary. For high-level or multi-layer shelving, anchoring devices should be installed between the base and the ground to enhance anti-tipping capabilities. Load testing can be used as an acceptance step, simulating maximum load to observe for any abnormal deformation or noise.
In daily use and maintenance, standardized habits should be cultivated. Key techniques include strictly prohibiting overloading and concentrated stacking, and maintaining a uniform load distribution across each layer; avoiding impacts to uprights and shelves during storage and retrieval to prevent damage to the structure or coating. Regularly check bolt tightness, shelf flatness, and surface protection condition, reinforcing or replacing any issues promptly. For racks that are not in use for extended periods or are being relocated, disassemble and store them properly to prevent moisture or deformation from external pressure.
Furthermore, the modular nature of these racks allows for rapid reconfiguration. The technique involves optimizing the layout simply by adding or removing units or adjusting shelf heights during business adjustments or seasonal demand changes, reducing investment in equipment replacement.
In short, mastering the selection, layout planning, precise installation, and standardized maintenance techniques for universal angle steel racks not only improves their efficiency but also extends their lifespan, reduces costs, and provides stable and efficient support for warehousing operations.
